About Plain Pensions

Pensions are one of the most important financial things most people ever deal with — and one of the most confusing. Official guidance is often written for professionals, and a lot of what fills the gap online is trying to sell you something.

Plain Pensions exists to explain UK pensions in plain English: what a workplace pension actually is, how the state pension is worked out, what a SIPP does differently, and what your real options are when you change jobs or find an old pension pot. No jargon left unexplained, and no guide written to steer you towards a particular product.

What this site is not

This is general information, not personalised financial advice, and it is not a substitute for a regulated financial adviser. Where a decision genuinely depends on your own circumstances — transferring a defined benefit pension, for example — every guide says so plainly and points you to free, impartial services like MoneyHelper and Pension Wise.
