Common questions
What is the state pension age in the UK?+
It depends on your date of birth. Many people retiring now have an age of 66. It is rising to 67 for people born from 6 April 1960, and current law sets 68 for people born from 6 April 1978. Check your own date rather than assuming.
How much is the full new State Pension in 2026/27?+
The full rate is £241.30 a week if you have 35 qualifying National Insurance years. Your forecast on GOV.UK is the figure to plan with, not this headline.
Do I get state pension automatically at that age?+
No. You have to claim. You can also defer, which increases the weekly amount. There is no early claim, including for ill health.
